shoes: Mizuno Waverider 11 (2008/b)
Physio reckoned that my knee problems had more to do with the IT band than the cartilage, which I was inclined to believe as he was able to pick out tender spots both where it joins the knee and the hip. So he strapped my knee to reduce the load on the leg, told me to go for a half hour run and see how thing went.

It hurt.

Orienteering race 52:00 [2] 4.5 km (11:33 / km)
shoes: New Balance 909 Trail Shoes
Walked (mostly) around a course in Auckland's Cornwall Park. Good use of the old volcano to provide over/round route choices. The fences had all been lifted from the map, presumably as all courses would have been of yellow standard otherwise, which caused me a few problems until I realised what was going on. And irritated me whenever I found I'd clambered across into the wrong field yet again...

Managed to drag six of my colleagues out with me, all of whom claimed to have enjoyed themselves. Two of them even tried to run.

Monday Dec 1

Circuits 10:00 [4]
Blisters on my feet, including two on the tip of my left big toe. Made press ups challenging.

Apparently flip flops aren't designed for covering distances in excess of twenty miles. Don't quite see why not...

Wandered down to the local park in order to lead a circuits session for all of my incredibly keen and active colleagues*.

* none of them turned up. They have been ensuring that there is 'enough rest' in their training schedules.

Sunday Nov 30

Note
Wandered around Auckland looking for a barbers that was (a) open on a Sunday and (b) didn't cost the earth. Eventually found one charging $15 (approximately nothing) very close to my flat, on the main shopping street. Knee started hurting after about twelve miles, and I now have striped feet as a result of wearing flip-flops in the sun.
