Thursday Dec 4

Run 32:36 [3] 3.7 mi (8:47 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Green
Greenwood loop.

I did some chem studying for the final tomorrow during the run, but didn't get much done.

My quads were a little tight, which seems pretty random since I doubt that 20 minutes of playing ping-pong yesterday set them off :).

My right knee was also a little sore in the old spot from last spring, but it was pretty minor & hopefully won't come back.

Wednesday Dec 3

Ping-pong 20:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Green
Study break :).

Doubles w/ Jana, Josh, & Zach. Josh kept hitting it in the corner/slamming it, and despite attempting to dive spectacularly into the wood floor it was difficult to return them....
Note
Skype training w/ Tori, Anna, Alison, Eileen, & Andrew. We split into two groups tonight since there were more of us than usual. Chose routes on another Swiss map; there were some interesting legs this time :).

Tuesday Dec 2

Map run 33:11 [3] 3.7 mi (8:57 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Green
Greenwood loop. Time includes one traffic light & excludes two.

I read the first 10 controls from last year's Green 2 course at Bogg's Mtn and daydreamed for the rest of the run.

About the Bogg's Mtn course:

- It's really bland. There are hills, but they're big and gradual and there's not much reentrant detail along most of them.

- I would pace-count a lot.

- It would be good to stick to some trails in order to have an attackpoint that's not just a thicket or a clearing.

- Most of the map cues are vegetation because there are hardly any rocks, detailed contours, or water features (and I remember the rocks that were there being very small -- someone (Gavin?) last year laughed and figured they'd just placed one on the map for the meet so there'd be a control feature)

- I remember from last year that the open woods is quite open and that it's difficult to see some of the less-distinct trails.

- I find this kind of orienteering tricky because I prefer to mostly rely on contours and ignore vegetation.
Dance (Zumba) 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Green
Zumba class w/ Amelia, Kate, & Mallory. It was a lot easier than last time :).

Monday Dec 1

Note
I was a slug and didn't run today :(.

But...the Connected Learning Program application that Mallory and I wrote up a few weeks ago just got accepted!!!

It's similar to special interest housing ... so next year there'll be an Orienteering community in one of the dorms! Hopefully this'll help recruit new orienteers since it'll be a housing option. And it'll be easier to train since we'll all be together, and the CLP provides some funding so we could get compasses & controls and probably transportation :).
