OH MY GOD......a PB on this course by nearly 7 mins and a PB ever by 4 mins.
I knew it would be fast as there was hardly any wind. Ben Hartman turned up proclaiming a sub 80 min run was the order of the day. I however set myself a modest target of 85:12 which incidentally is exactly 6:30 pace for every mile (and still a PB on this course having done 87 and 86 mins before). Started off feeling OK and even didn't stand at the front to try and go off at a slow enough pace....that failed though!!
Every mile when I was timing the split was much less that 6:30, but having done this before I know that you have to be ahead by the time you get to Tilli as the rest is into a headwind or uphill. By 9 miles I was still massively ahead with the Mentrie hill still to come. Saw Fraser by the end of his road in Menstrie and pushed on despite my feet killing me (I have megga bad blisters now!!). Passed the end of my street at exactly 12 miles and with Susan & the girls cheering me on and with less than 1 mile to go I realised that if I tried really hard I might break 80...which I did...just!!

The lesson of the day though was that the Virtual Partner on the Garmin was useless; just take a split at ever mile!!
In the end I was 41st out of 977...not bad really!!
