Monday Jul 16 #

5 PM

Cycling 1:16:11 [2] +167m

Nice chilled spin up to Roslin Chapel and back along the cycle path with James. Kept it easy as feeling pretty tired in my quads especially.

Sunday Jul 15 #

4 PM

Running (Road) 15:01 [2] 3.42 km (4:23 / km) +26m 4:14 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (Red)

Drills 2:26 [1] 0.38 km (6:24 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (Red)

Running (Road) (Threshold) 29:34 [4] 6.24 km (4:44 / km) +2m 4:44 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (Red)

How to avoid mad crowds on the Meadows on a sunday in July:

a) Go when it's raining
b) Go during the world cup final

2x (2km T, 4x 200m R) all off 1.15 rest. Out and back on the T.

Good session despite feeling pretty tired all day. Went a bit fast on the Ts. Knee and foot (mostly bad blister) started hurting pretty much as soon as I started the warm down.

Running (Road) 7:54 [2] 1.85 km (4:16 / km) +4m 4:13 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (Red)

11 AM

Swimming 30:00 [2]

My pool timetable is out of date and I turned up with my aquajogging belt only to discover that the pool was 75cm too shallow this morning, so breaststroke it was. Didn't have my goggles with me but managed this much without too much neck ache. Also pleasantly surprised how little water I swallowed.

Then back to following JWOC relay excitement.
4 PM

Cycling 1:55:00 [3] +249m

With Ray out around East Lothian.

Bit of excitement and faff when my front tyre completely blew out with a very loud bang. Feeling a bit tired or maybe Ray is just too strong! Did get a bit of practice trying to hold a wheel on some of the nicer roads which still scares me.

Friday Jul 13 #

2 PM

Running (Road) 9:18 [2] 2.09 km (4:27 / km)
ahr:137 max:162 shoes: Asics DS Trainer 22 (Blue/Gree

Managed to coincide my warm up with the first heavy rain I can remember in many weeks.

Drills 6:28 [1] 0.8 km (8:05 / km)
ahr:126 max:153 shoes: Asics DS Trainer 22 (Blue/Gree

Running (VO2 Intervals) 29:39 [5] 6.95 km (4:16 / km)
ahr:158 max:177 shoes: Asics DS Trainer 22 (Blue/Gree

4x 1km [2min]
5x 400m [45s]

My knee was really well-behaved, or maybe I was distracted by developing a really painful blister on the outside of my R foot. Ordered a new pair of shoes as soon as I got home.
8 PM

Cycling 1:03:49 [2] +307m
ahr:133 max:242

3x Arthur's Seat

Pushed a bit on the middle lap

Thursday Jul 12 #

6 AM

Cycling 1:35:18 [2] +587m
ahr:125 max:157

Pre-work Arthur's Seat laps. Steady effort, trying to keep spinning fast and not go deep on the climb.

5 laps I think? Was very pleasant and quiet too, except along the killing fields which is always a drag.

Wednesday Jul 11 #

7 AM

Aqua Jogging 1:00:00 [3]

With Ray. Did 16x 45/15 in the middle.

Knee hurting quite a lot which it hasn't done really in the pool before.
5 PM

Running (Road) 12:43 [2] 2.85 km (4:28 / km) +16m 4:20 / km
ahr:129 max:144 shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (Red)

Gave running a go but my knee was not happy about it.

If I end up with chronic injuries when I'm old/retired I think I'll just stop. Training isn't a huge amount of fun when

a) I can't go exploring off road or up hills
b) It hurts when I run
c) I'm in the pool a lot

The only really fun thing is cycling but I'll have to figure out how pro cyclists stop their ass bones being in agony all the time.
