Tuesday May 22 #

Ride #9 - Morning ride around Slickrock. Really quiet, nice riding. Cloudy and a bit cooler which was nice. But really windy!

Mid-day run/hike. Up Portal trail, along Gold Bar Rim and Golden Spike. Came back on the 4x4 Golden Spike and Poison Spider. Went further than planned, underestimated the extra return distance (on PS vs Portal), didn't bring enough water or food. Was a hurting unit by the last 8 km down PS. Still, a great run with awesome views. Had a good time watching the 4x4's navigate the insanely challenging jeep trails. Wow!

Ride #7 - Great ride on Mag7 trails. Started with a warm-up around Mustang, Whirlwind and Hidalgo. Then, went out Bull Run, Arth's and Little Canyon .. back on Great Escape and Getaway. Long ride!

Afternoon ride at Dead Horse Point State Park. Cruising. Generally pretty easy, but technical enough to stay interesting.

Sunday May 20 #

Ride #7A - Awesome, awesome ride at Gooseberry Mesa. Great trails, quite challenging. Oddly, the blues (which I started on) seemed almost as hard as the double-black. Did North Rim and South Rim trails from the White trailhead. Getting better on the slickrock as the ride progressed. Great views all around.

Ride #7B - Continuation of the morning ride at Gooseberry Mesa. Bowls and Ledges, Windmill and about half of Gander. A bit easier than the early section, which was good, but still super fun. And great views. A bit of double-track/road at the end to get back to the car.

Ride #8 - Had lunch (sort of) driving from one trailhead to the other. Short ride at Wire Mesa. Nice easy loop. But nice, nonetheless, with views down toward Grafton.

Saturday May 19 #

Ride #5 - Hurricane Cliffs. Hurricane, UT. Really nice ride. Warmed up on some of the easier trails up top. Then, finished off with Hurricane Rim. Nice trail with great views.

Ride #6 - Zen trail outside St George. Fun trail, some definite challenging slick rock sections. Second ride of the day, riding pretty conservatively and walked quite a few of the harder bits. St George was a bit surreal. Lots of new development, golf courses and busy city. Then, abruptly on the edge of town ... nothingness. Less well laid out than Hurricane (no signs, nothing at the "parking area") ... not nearly as pleasant/inviting.

Friday May 18 #

Run/hike at Great Basin NP in Nevada. Decent hike with some good views. Not spectacular, but nice nonetheless. Climbed from 2100 m to 2900 m, so a decent workout.

Thursday May 17 #

Morning skate ski at Mt Bachelor. Really nice at the beginning. Slowing down considerably as the day went on. My skis need wax! Great views and a super-nice day.

Ride #4 - Bend OR. Nice ride on somewhat tired legs. Easy cruising mostly, punctuated by more challenging rocky bits. Dry pine forests. Great fun on Lower Whoops.
