MMM C day 2. At some stage Paul & Moire’s tent caved in & Moire came in with us. Later there was glorious quiet for a little while, until the wind started up again, in a new direction & with rain this time. I spent the rest of the night half buried in the sagging flysheet, but it was warm & I got a few hours good sleep.
Gave up on sleep about 6:30, and the rain had stopped. Turned out to be a lovely day if a bit windy. Again started with close-spaced controls round Fofanny reservoir, over Butter Mt, across the road to a cluster of 4 controls on Hen Mt. That was fun with people scattering in every direction. Then came a couple of longer legs. We went down to the Mourne Way rather than contouring round , and took the route choice high to the east side of Slievemoughanmore (lower might have been better?) into Windy Gap. Then a bit of path before a totally gratuitous climb up to a control high on the crags above Pigeon Rock River. Finished with gallop down to the valley and a long long run along the road to the GAC club. Much better day, enjoyed it all except the last 2km on the road.
