Warrior Race at Van Gaalens. Thought I should give it go as it was on my doorstep, and a free entry sweetened the deal.... decided on doing Commando Elite and not Black-ops. I was a bit worried about a few obstacles, as I really had no idea what to expect. Started off well and was in the top 5 for the first few obstacles, which were pretty easy. Got to obstacle 5, "mission impossible" in 6th place, with 4th and 5th still on the obstacle. Mission impossible = 2 parallel gum poles, one about 2,8m above the ground, and the other, another 1 meter above that. need to get over both. I just could not get up onto the first pole. I watched a few others at their technique, and tried and tried for 15 minutes until my arms were so pumped I just couldn't anymore! Took a 5 minute break, then tried and tried again until my arms were just completely stuffed. Turns out being tall doesn't help at all, you need some muscles (and technique), which I clearly don't have either of :( I took the DSQ and then just carried on. The rest of the obstacles were all pretty easy, got over them first time. If only I could have got past mission impossible on one of my first attempts before destroying my arms, the race would have been a different story. Overall good fun and a good learning experience all round!
