Single car family triple-booked, so on the TTC bus at 7:30 am to subway, over to UP Express, out to airport where DD11 and Browner picked me up. My wife asked Sat. night if the effort to get there was worth it, but really wanted to get out for at least 1 O-Cup. Bad fitness winter with not enough training, too much standing in a hockey rink and a still creaky hip, but I was determined.
Good host venue with indoor facility. Thankfully brought slipon spikes to help with the icy trails. Somewhat familiar with the area, which led me to of course overshoot my first CP. Finished box 1, then got kicked west and promptly followed the powerlines away. Ugh. I can do this. Take a moment, relocate and shuffle onward to CP1. Okay up til the top of box 2 when my phone rang and I had to go digging in my emails to determine if the boy's hockey practice was cancelled or not (it wasn't. It was supposed to be.). That threw me off and I struggled with last 2 in the box. Plodded along for the rest and finally to the finish with a sore hip, cramp in my gut, but a smile to be actually out there. Nowhere to go but up for 2017.
