3. 413m 3:56 3 +19 9% 96.3 9:31   1200m 9:32 2 +3 1% 7:56 I got stuck in the darn fence, that's why so slow.
4. 915m 6:13 2 +5 1% 106.2 6:47   2115m 15:45 2 +8 1% 7:26
5. 370m 4:05 1 -13 -5% 107.8 11:02   2485m 19:50 1 -5 0% 7:58
6. 356m 3:31 2 +7 3% 100.8 9:52   2841m 23:21 2 +2 0% 8:13
7. 568m 5:27 1 -15 -4% 103.3 9:35   3409m 28:48 1 -20 -1% 8:26 I went wide right, staying on the N–S road until the power line, then ran the ridgeline. I had serious doubts about the route, especially since Swisschocolate had in essence said in his notes that the trail/road was almost never faster, but splits show it worked out just fine. I think the control was half a contour too high.
8. 618m 4:09 1 -28 -10% 111.5 6:42   4027m 32:57 1 -48 -2% 8:10
9. 322m 2:22 1 -30 -17% 119.5 7:20   4349m 35:19 1 -1:18 -4% 8:07
10. 78m 30 2 +1 3% 106.7 6:24   4427m 35:49 1 -1:17 -3% 8:05
11. 1024m 10:31 2 +1:54 22% 94.8 1:50 1:07 10:16   5451m 46:20 2 +37 1% 8:29 From the onset, I went too wide to the left, then hit the road and ended up on an S-curve. Which, as the textbook says, is rarely the fastest. I am curious as to which route Ted took for his blazing split; I wonder if all the way around to the right, staying high, was the fastest.
12. 444m 4:16 1 -11 -4% 104.2 9:36   5895m 50:36 2 +16 1% 8:35 It took a long time to get down to the lake just after #11.
13. 670m 6:13 1 -40 -10% 108.3 9:16   6565m 56:49 1 -24 -1% 8:39 I ended up going less straight than I wanted to, mainly because the woods just S of the large field were junky (mapped as white).
14. 290m 2:58 2 +11 7% 102.2 10:13   6855m 59:47 1 -13 0% 8:43
15. 590m 4:30 1 -26 -9% 107.2 7:37   7445m 1:04:17 1 -45 -1% 8:38 Another leg on which I was not sure whether my grossly simplified route (trail all the way) was the best. It was. After the race, I saw the shorter route that included the ride on the S side of the large reentrant. I do not know if anyone took it.
16. 416m 3:41 1 -31 -12% 111.5 8:51   7861m 1:07:58 1 -1:16 -2% 8:38 I took a really bad fall crossing the fence just before #16, probably tripping on said fence. Larry Vidinha heard what I said, and seemed unhappy about the disturbed peace.
17. 430m 3:50 1 -20 -8% 111.7 8:54   8291m 1:11:48 1 -1:36 -2% 8:39
18. 707m 6:03 2 +15 4% 99.9 8:33   8998m 1:17:51 1 -1:21 -2% 8:39 I went wide left, using as much of the trail as I could. I don't think this was particularly bad, I was just slow going downhill, afraid to trip and fall again.
19. 143m 34 3 +7 26% 89.2 3:57   9141m 1:18:25 1 -1:14 -2% 8:34
