1. 466m 2:37 2 +1 1% 5:36   466m 2:37 2 +1 1% 5:36 Good start, clean into the control.
2. 399m 3:20 2 +15 8% 8:21   865m 5:57 2 +14 4% 6:52 Stayed high above the green by the lake. Hit the trail 50m right of the control.
3. 797m 5:10 1 -4 -1% 6:28   1662m 11:07 2 +10 2% 6:41 Straight to the tip of the inlet, then straight at the control. Woods were just as fast as the trail.
4. 842m 5:56 1 -3 -1% 7:02   2504m 17:03 2 +7 1% 6:48 Safe route using the big spur to the S until I could see the stream junction below the control. Objectively not fastest, but it's an area of the map where staying in contact can be tricky.
5. 608m 5:06 2 +9 3% 8:23   3112m 22:09 2 +16 1% 7:07 Way right to take the trail through the scrub oak, then clipping the tops of the reentrants into the control.
6. 1624m 10:34 1 -12 -2% 6:30   4736m 32:43 2 +4 0% 6:54 Yawner leg - trail pretty much the whole way. This might have been the beginning of the end for the legs, although they still felt OK.
7. 774m 7:30 2 +54 14% 9:41   5510m 40:13 2 +58 2% 7:17 Slightly right to make sure I hit the stream where it was crossable. Got quickly up to the right height on the far side and then contoured over.
8. 862m 6:47 1 -2:05 -23% 7:52   6372m 47:00 1 -1:07 -2% 7:22 Went up a line to miss most of the green. After the powerline went pretty much straight at it, but found the streams at the bottom pretty confusing. Was pretty sure i was on the right one, but sure felt a lot better when I spotted the bag from 50m out.
9. 1958m 19:24 1 -1:06 -5% 4:00 9:54   8330m 1:06:24 1 -2:13 -3% 7:58 Went too far right and ended up pretty close to the gravel road, so I just bailed to the road so I could keep moving fast while I figured out what to do. That worked fine and I picked up the EW trail just S of the camp. Should have stayed on it, but instead cut the corner and got really slowed by the scrub oak. Crap leg made worse by the fact that I was now really overheating.
10. 847m 8:22 1 -2:27 -23% 9:52   9177m 1:14:46 1 -10:12 -12% 8:08 Ran accurately, but it wasn't really running. Had to walk the climb up to the control. Matt was about 20s ahead of me for most of this leg.
11. 877m 5:56 1 6:45   10054m 1:20:42 1 0% 8:01 Since moving fast was out, I didn't bother with all the trails and just went straight through the camp. Got ahead of Matt and passed Rob just before the control.
12. 833m 7:44 1 -48 -9% 9:17   10887m 1:28:26 1 -5:04 -5% 8:07 By now the death match was a death march and I just staggered along. Easy nav, but I was hardly moving.
13. 215m 1:57 1 -3 -2% 9:04   11102m 1:30:23 1 -5:07 -5% 8:08 Was a bit worried about tiptoeing along the top of the waterfall given that my motor control was pretty shot, but couldn't give up on a tough run at this point, so I took the straight route in.
