3. 355m 3:43 1 0% 1:25 10:28   1563m 12:24 1 0% 7:56 Was a bit passive in looking for the pits as I attacked from the clearing. Missed and had to turn around.

5. 158m 1:58 1 0% 55 12:26   2050m 16:25 1 0% 8:00 Was almost there but could not make out the hill ahead of me on the inkjet-printed map. Then saw a different control to my left, thought my compass direction was wrong, and visited the wrong control.

7. 689m 5:48 1 0% 8:25   3050m 24:32 1 0% 8:02 Very happy with map reading on this one...
8. 617m 6:44 1 0% 10:54   3667m 31:16 1 0% 8:31 ... and on this one...
9. 615m 6:29 1 0% 10:32   4282m 37:45 1 0% 8:48 ... and on this one. As I was coming in, a Serbian guy came in from below.
10. 278m 6:43 1 0% 3:10 24:09   4560m 44:28 1 0% 9:45 The Serb left towards the north. I thought he'd be stuck in the green, as it looked medium green on the map. It was only later when I saw the 1:10,000 offset-printed maps that everyone else used, that I realize it really was light green and not medium! To go through the green meant saving climb and having a better attack point. I went around, meaning climbing (at a pretty good HR) and then coming down without a distinct attack point. The lack of attack points lead to me exploring three other reentrants before locating mine.
11. 541m 5:17 1 0% 9:45   5101m 49:45 1 0% 9:45 Started to start to fade...
12. 646m 5:00 1 0% 7:44   5747m 54:45 1 0% 9:31
13. 233m 3:01 1 0% 12:56   5980m 57:46 1 0% 9:39
14. 441m 5:28 1 0% 12:23   6421m 1:03:14 1 0% 9:50
15. 364m 4:26 1 0% 25 12:10   6785m 1:07:40 1 0% 9:58 Again, got distracted by another control, located on a clearing just like mine.
16. 721m 4:44 1 0% 6:33   7506m 1:12:24 1 0% 9:38 Crossing the road was about the half-way point in distance. The rest of the course looked flat, however, with two long trail legs; I thought there was a chance it would go faster... how wrong...
17. 133m 1:03 1 0% 7:53   7639m 1:13:27 1 0% 9:36 Dropped the camelback at the water point—though I'd drunk enough to get me through...
18. 424m 4:15 1 0% 10:01   8063m 1:17:42 1 0% 9:38
19. 206m 2:32 1 0% 45 12:17   8269m 1:20:14 1 0% 9:42 The control description was really inadequate here. The descriptions weren't particularly exacting to begin with, but here it just sucked. "Spur" with a reentrant junction circled, and the control being at the very possible top of the spur.
20. 707m 6:28 1 0% 9:08   8976m 1:26:42 1 0% 9:39
21. 92m 53 1 0% 9:36   9068m 1:27:35 1 0% 9:39
22. 1592m 13:08 1 0% 8:14   10660m 1:40:43 1 0% 9:26 Tried to prod myself into running on the trails. Actually slowed to a walk a few times but mostly ran.
23. 185m 1:23 1 0% 7:28   10845m 1:42:06 1 0% 9:24
24. 591m 4:49 1 0% 20 8:09   11436m 1:46:55 1 0% 9:20 Went off on a trail that paralleled the edge-of-map trail but was actually off the map. Figured it out somewhat quickly as the features made no sense.
25. 1521m 14:39 1 0% 9:37   12957m 2:01:34 1 0% 9:22 As I was running on the trail right after #24, towards the edge of the young firs, Matti-Pekka of Espoo came along. "Feels like Tour de France." "Sure does, but no water." "Want some?" Matti-Pekka was so graceful to stop and let me drink from one of two miniature Silva bottles he had. I tried running for as long as I had him in sight, but slowed down to a walk on the E–W road.
26. 362m 3:55 1 0% 10:49   13319m 2:05:29 1 0% 9:25 Mostly walking.
27. 443m 5:47 1 0% 13:03   13762m 2:11:16 1 0% 9:32 Also walking... planning for 2:18 finish...
28. 517m 6:10 1 0% 11:55   14279m 2:17:26 1 0% 9:37 ... maybe not so fast...
29. 299m 2:40 1 0% 8:55   14578m 2:20:06 1 0% 9:36
30. 62m 28 1 0% 7:31   14640m 2:20:34 1 0% 9:36
31. 190m 48 1 0% 4:12   14830m 2:21:22 1 0% 9:31 ... it's finally over!
