After some initial indecision, I chose to take the trailjust right of line to the sone wall junction and attack before the bend. But when I hit the junction, I followed the stone wall going W instead of S! By the time I realized it, I figured I'd just take the lower trail and climb back up to. At least I spiked it from the trail.
2. 213m 4:12 4 +39 18% 86.4 19:43   738m 11:38 4 +2:28 27% 15:45 Diddled around too much trying to cross the marsh on a log. Ended up getting soaked anyway. Control was easy to spike.
3. 578m 7:14 1 -20 -4% 106.2 12:30   1316m 18:52 3 +1:27 8% 14:20 Trail to the right seemed too circuitous, so I went a bit left of line to the trail going NE, past the stone wall and attacked a bit before the bend. Read the map well, coming over the steep hillside, past a boulder and right to it.
4. 222m 15:11 9 +11:59 374% 21.3 12:00 10:58 1:08:23   1538m 34:03 9 +13:26 65% 22:08 Disaster #1. I could not tell you where I was as I wandered (visiting a lot knolls, sometimes the same knoll multiple times). Finally baled to the trail NW of the control, between the two marshes, and found it right away from there. Is there a lesson to be learned here? (Hint: the trail was less than 100 meters away.)
5. 167m 10:36 7 +8:50 500% 21.6 8:00 7:37 1:03:28   1705m 44:39 6 +21:53 96% 26:11 Well, I hadn't learned it yet. I suppose I didn't believe I could get so lost on a leg this short. I couldn't make sense of the map, wandered and wandered. (There were other lost souls in the area, but I ignored them.) Eventually I baled NW to the trail (where the cliffs overlook the marsh), came back in very carefully, still missed it slightly, but figured it out.
6. 356m 10:32 7 +6:07 138% 50.9 5:00 3:34 29:35   2061m 55:11 7 +28:00 103% 26:46 Compass bearing was so bad on this leg that when I came in to the right of a stone wall heading NW, I assumed it was the one W of the control and ended up back at the main trail due S of 7. Redid it more carefully from there.
7. 360m 4:56 3 +43 17% 93.7 13:42   2421m 1:00:07 7 +25:50 75% 24:49 Feeling a bit discouraged, I just walked this one, and read the map well until near the circle, where I first went to a knoll to the W.
8. 213m 4:22 7 +1:25 48% 73.8 30 20:30   2634m 1:04:29 8 +27:15 73% 24:28 Still mostly walking, trying to read the map. Hesitated a bit short of the control because I didn't expect it to be down so low.
9. 766m 8:13 2 +21 4% 100.4 10:43   3400m 1:12:42 7 +27:36 61% 21:22 Due E to the trail, then attack from the bend. Went by the boulder (with a flag on it), then the little cliff, then right to it.
10. 228m 3:58 6 +1:07 39% 75.8 30 17:23   3628m 1:16:40 7 +28:24 59% 21:07 Missed a bit left and hit the trail going EW. Pit seemed closer to the trail than mapped.
11. 421m 5:06 4 +24 9% 92.7 12:06   4049m 1:21:46 7 +28:47 54% 20:11 Turned right after the bridge, then climbed diagonally up the hillside, crossed the trail, and followed the top of the hillside right to it.
12. 462m 5:54 6 +1:57 49% 74.2 1:00 12:46   4511m 1:27:40 7 +28:35 48% 19:26 Crossed the field and took the trial along the marsh. Crossed the marsh and climbed the steep, rocky knoll to the trail. Couldn't even see on my map that there was a knoll there, so took a minute to figure out I had to go south and back down a bit.
13. 225m 2:37 4 +24 18% 89.6 11:37   4736m 1:30:17 7 +28:49 47% 19:03 Ran along the river. Slow going, but spiked it.
14. 140m 45 6 +11 32% 77.0 5:21   4876m 1:31:02 7 +28:50 46% 18:40 I didn't hit my watch until after I had removed my punchcard, so this split is a guess.
