UNO Camping Weekend: Red Day 1

walk

1. +02:00Road around and up E side of marsh, slow across marsh. Faster probably going trails and around marsh and along hill.
2. +05:00Past marsh and around pond to trail S of long marsh, between marshes on high ground to rocks then S of long skinny marsh, up and over to a depression. No control. Took a bit to figure out location and had swerved R around marsh instead of straight between marshes.
3. Straight
4. Straight
5. To road, R on road, L on road to bend, straight in to hill.
6. Across beaver dam,R of hill, along and thru marsh and then stony ground to spur. Up to bag.
7. R of line over small hill, across marsh and along marsh to control.
8. Back along marsh, up and along spur, skirt around top of hill to top of reentrant - NO bag. Must be there - down a bit and saw bag, lower down than advertised.
9. R to along marsh, crossed after first, along hillside but drifted R a bit. Saw a small hill to L. Dropped down and saw water feature and then cliff. In.
10. Bad route choice
Did not plan ahead
Took a chance
Underrated difficulty

Went straight up and thru cliffs. Slow and difficult route. Along open lichen patches, then down into soft feature area. Realized a bit low and headed up as Lyn and Suzanne were leaving.

Underrated difficulty
Bad map reading
Could not relocate
Not thinking clearly

Up spur thru rocks, across marsh and over spur. Passed a boulder which I thought was the BIG one - wasn't. Headed into very soft area with poor vis and wandered. Checked out several rock groups but couldn't locate. Passed a BIG rock which thought was one 200 m S of control as had wandered so long. Headed N looking for small boulder and cliff but walked into spur and boulder cluster and big marsh on far side of marsh. Realized was back at first marsh and the proper BIG boulder. Careful bearing and went in along with Jim A.
12. Carefully straight
13. Up, over top just R of very small hill on trail. Down thru green coming out just by rock with bag.
14. Straight hitting trails at junction. Along trail to R cutting over spur and hit trail, then back to back.
15. Straight across to final trail.
