Race Evaluation

DVOA: Camp Horseshoe: red

tstrat

1. Went 5 steps down the road and found a place to cut up. Navigated by the buildings. Wasted a little time checking out the ditches a little high on the hillside.
2. So nice to cross the stream so early in the race....
3. Saw a hunters blind in a tree on the way and stopped to find it on the map but couldn't. My purple overprint was smudged.
4. Went aroudn to the left of all the buildings and attacked from the end of the fence at the corner of the rough open. But still ended up way left and had to work my way around the hill until it got steep.
5. Walked right to it.
6. Got real confused leaving #5. Hit the amphitheater, but thought I was at the small clearing NW of it. So I took the (wrong) small trail heading south. When I got to the road I turned left, but now I was headed E toward the river. Stop, turn around, and back up the hill to the parking lot.
7. Thought about fording the river when I saw how high the bridge was, but decided to take the bridge for the fun of it. Straight up the spur on the other side (walking) then followed the road all the way past the rocks.
8. Bearing straight to what I thought was the rocky spur, but no control. Kept going and found it on a small spur a little lower. Culd this have been misplaced?
9. Down to stream then contour around. Teh ditch made a nice check-off and I could look up to see the building.
10. Planned to attack this by running down the road, then contouring across to the control. But when I hit the road I was right at the clearing, so decided to do it the way everyone else did.
11. I must have drifted left as I headed downt he hill, as the road was not paved where I crossed it. Waste deep and fast moving, I thought swimming might be faster than wading, but decided to stay half dry. Was relieved that I could easily discern the cliffs on the hillside so no trouble finding the control.
12. Contoured across. I was able to run most of the way, but looking at the splits, it seems that angling up to the small trail was faster.
13. Ran the trails. But too tired to move fast.
14.
15. Planned to go to the SW corner of the field, but saw the trail 50 m before the corner and cut in there. Too cautious approaching this one
16. Tried to cross the reentrant right away but had to retreat when I became entangled int he brambles. Then went N to the trail and then NE from building to building.
