Race Evaluation

Susquehanna Stumble IX: Long

peggyd's comments - by leg

1. With Greg Lennon until I mess up B.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6. B. My biggest mistake of the day.
7. C
8. A
9. H. Tim G catches me on the long run from A & we stay together until L, more or less.
10. E. Jim Eagleton joins us & is usually just ahead of me through the window. But he hasn't been to H yet ...
11. F
12. D
13. G ... so Jim E. heads off to H while Tim & I head for 14.
14.
15.
16.
17. I am a bit ahead of Tim; I can see the control across the green and go straight; Tim goes around and is faster as I get caught in the thorny junk.
18. Tom S. is right behind us as we leave 17 & we all arrive at 18 (end of Short) together.
19. J. Tom passes me in the field & gets to the control first.
20. K. I'm ahead of Tim; maybe Tom did these in a different order??
21. I. Still slightly ahead of Tim.
22. L. I go around on the trail to the east & attack it from below; am in and out before Tim & Tom head in. I try to take advantage of my slight lead.
23. I see Tom & then Tim arriving at the ruin as I'm leaving for 24, already up on the upper trail. I never see Tim again.
24. I dogleg this control.
25. I keep looking back for Tim & Tom but see neither.
26. P. Ditto. Not a perfect route -- I have to push through some "light green" but I hit it pretty well.
27. M. I see Dave O for the first time -- he's heading to P -- and Tom trudging up the hill to go to P. Gotta move.
28. Q
29. N
30. O. I see Dave again as I'm down on the trail heading to the bridge; he's going to O.
31. My route is not as good as Dave's and he catches me at the control.
32. With Dave for the first half; he decides to turn up an earlier trail and make his way through the tricky vegetation up top. I choose to take an easier but longer route. I spike the control, and fully expect to see Dave as I leave.
33. I've made up a minute or so on Dave -- I do see him as I'm heading to 33. Not sure I have enough speed to hold him off.
34. I come into the finish all alone. Someone tells me I'm 6th overall; Ted says I finished "right behind" him ... well, in place, anyway.
