Race Evaluation

BAOC Briones: Blue

Tundra/Desert

1. The route. The control was a contour higher than shown, but could have been anywhere, really, with the feature spanning hundreds of meters. Gavin told me before the race that he put some controls in the middle of a field just for the spectator value of it.

6.
7. I made the point of returning the gate to the closed and locked state I found it in, so that Jean-Charles, who started about 6 minutes after me, would not get it for free.
8.
9. Passed Nik Weber.
10.
11.
12.
13. Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha. I actually knew this would happen, old man Gavin played this route trick on us already in 2002. Poor youngsters sure didn't see this coming.
14.
15.
16.
17. There was a lot of scout traffic in the stream bed, and it slowed me down significantly. Others didn't have this problem with the same low route, so I don't count this as a mistake—normally you don't have to account for human obstacles when planning your route.
