Race Evaluation

WCOC Ansonia Nature Center meet: Red

skdewitt's comments - by leg

1. Did not plan ahead
Wasn't in great contact but saw Janet up ahead. Went up the main trail then just over the ridges.
2. Time Lost: 01:00Didn't think of this leg as an error but looking at other's splits, looks like a lost some time. I was hesitating a lot, trying to keep in contact.
3. Shot for the pond.
4. Time Lost: 00:30Past 10 along the way and used the stone wall beyond it as an attack. Saw Jim C at 10 and talked to him for 1/2 a minute. He wasn't having a good run. Caught up to Charlie near 4.
5. Straight across trail and rocky reentrant. Charlie in view all the way with Rick coming up behind.
6. Time Lost: 00:30Tried to go straight at it but ended up a little low.
7. Pretty much straight at it using the swamp and reentrant as an attack. Lots more water than indicated and got slowed down by it all.
8. Time Lost: 01:00Planned to head north to trail and run the trail all the way but veered off a little east, passing 11. Then got on the trail and ran it around.
9. No attack point
Time Lost: 00:45
Ran around on the big trail but stupidly came off the trail without paying attention to where I was--there was a cliff I could have used as an easy attack. Realized I came off too soon and ran ahead and found it.
10. Time Lost: 00:30Ran around on the trail. Wasn't in good contact when I got near the control and stopped short. Charlie led the way into the control.
11. Bad map reading
Time Lost: 00:30
Couldn't find the trail coming out of 10 and had trouble figuring out the map in this complicated area. Probably should have just chased Charlie.
12. Straight at it, tracking hills and cliffs and low areas.
13. Followed indistinct path.
14.
