Race Evaluation

QOC Hemlock Overlook: Blue

tdgood

1. Went straight. Didn't take the trail intentionally. It was greener running than expected. I ended up to far left in the slash and had to cut over.
2. +00:30Straight again but ended up to far left again. Maybe it is my
3. +00:45I took the left route. Cut over by 13 and got to the ridge. Then along the ridge to the end. Control description was incorrect. It said the western most but wasn't. I stood in the wester most reentrant awhile before going hopping to the other ones.
4. I stayed a little high to avoid some of the climb.
5. +01:20I originally was going to run way right to avoid climb, but after running a bit I realized that you had to climb either way. I dropped quickly down to the river. Unfortunately, got a rock in the shoe going down the steep slow and had to uptape my shoe, and empty it. Lost over a minute just doing that. Passed Michael Warlters just before 5. He looked confused. We were together off and on for awhile after that.
6. +00:30This time I drifted right. Things just didn't seem quite right. I could see the hill way off to the left but was still hesitant. I think the form line was what was throwing me off. Michael followed in my footsteps.
7. Decided to leave Michael behind to ran hard to this control. Still hesitant. I though the reentrant would have been deeper.
8. +00:20Apparently I can't run in a straight line. I was way upstream and confused.
9. +00:45This time I decided to take the trail. cut over to the trail, up the trail to bridge. I counted reentrants and somehow ended up missing one. I overshot and had to come back. Michael followed me. He should have orienteered himself.
10. +01:00Trail. I cut in to soon. It was confusing on the trail. I was standing on the hill expecting to look down and see the control. I couldn't see it. Control was faded. I had to go down off the hill before I could see it. Michael was still with me.
11. Southeast to the trail. Down the trail and cut corner to control. I left Michael behind again.
12. Wove my way through the pines. These are nice now that they have grown up some. This area use to be really bad.
13. North east and eventually cut over to the trail. Passed Victor Lin on the trail. At the trail bend I went straight to the control. No problem. Leaving the control I saw Victor who had taken the trail around.
14. +01:45I decided to straight line it. Unfortunately, I keyed off an unmapped rootsock wwhcih led me very astray. I ended in reentrant but way east. There were extra unmapped ditches which threw me off. I wandered for a bit before finally heading downstream.
15. +00:45I was ok until the final approach. I though it would be closer to the field and passed the control. Had to come back to it. John Torrance caught me at the control.
16. John decided to take the road. That was to easy so I opted for straighter route. The green was actually green which slowed me down a lot.
17. +00:30Field to road, to pond, to field. The field is not longer accurate. I ran to the stone wall, which turned out to be the ruin. I was all confused because I couldn't find a stone wall on the map. Finally saw a control. Ran over to it and then saw the fence. Control isn't in the clearing.
18. +01:00Let me start by sating the control was mishung. I ran by the building which was hard to see in the green on the map. Passed Tim Good. Ran to where the control should have been but it wasn't there. Dropped down hill some but sitll no control. Started heading up the spur and still couldn't see it. Tim said it was up the hill. I kept going until I was almost on top of it before I could see it.
19. Up to the field then cut in by the building.
F. Road in. No hurry.
