1. | Running sick. I hadn't much strength. I would have liked to dash across the open fields but had no energy. I cut right at the start and out to the field. I ran in from the intersection expecting it on the nearer reentrant.
2. | Trails to the clearing then up and in.
3. | Fairly straight. I was on the line half way but either the alignment of the shelter is wrong or I started to drift right. I could visualize the spur going to the water so I adjusted well in advance of getting there.
4. | +00:10 | I ran straight acros9 the marshy forest but fell within sight of the control.
5. | +00:25 | I took the road to the parking area and read the green from far off. The problem was that I visualized the control being on the far side of the next clearing instead on the near side. I somehow ran right past the control focused on looking ahead, then had to stop. It took a while for me to turn around and see it.
6. | I took the trail to the clearing, then ran the edge of the hillside into the control.
7. | Straight at it to spike it.
8. | I went straight and was unsure what the trails were doing. I could see it just past the top of the knoll.
9. | I ran the ridge, a little unsure at times, and tired too. A steady plodding got me there. I passed Sandy Fillebrown who had started with me. She was running on the Green/Brown course.
10. | +00:15 | I was closing in on an Asian runner at #9. He went left and I went right going to #10. I felt slow and was a little unsure once I'd reached the scattered tree area. I crossed paths with the runner who left #9 ahead of me and expected the control a bit left of where it was. The other guy hit it well.
11. | I ran fairly straight, crossing the trail before the rootstock. I gained ground on the Asian runner again.
12. | As I read the map, the Asian runner got out quick. I went out of #11 to the right, then left once I crossed the road.
13. | Straight through the greenish scattered trees.
F. | +00:02 | I passed little Evelyn Brautigam as I crossed the road. I figured that even though she was young, she could run fast. With me being sick, my sprint was nearly non-existant. Fortunately, Evelyn had a cramp and was walking. I ran in but flubbed the punch at the end for an extra 2 seconds. |
