Race Evaluation

Big Blues Ramble 2007: Long (Red)

mikeminium

1. fairly clean, trail to bend then N, keeping marsh on the right.
2. +00:10took a "safe" route hitting the trail heading east, then angling SE and following the ditch S to the control. lost a few seconds over a more direct route.
3. WSW counting ditches, and a good job of reading terrain.
4. SW to road then W thru the open area
5. spectator sprint
6. from 5, I went straight to #12. At 12, punched while checking the code, realized it didn't match, and stood there for 10 seconds or so of befuddlement before it hit me that I should be at #6 instead. A little hesitant on the recovery going on to 6.
7. Bad route choice
+00:30
long leg... I went east to the parking lot, BNE on bike trail, N on big trail, then NE using marshy open area as guide. I think the western route (which I didn't see then) would have been a lot faster.
8. Hesitated
+00:10
SE to trails. hesitated at main trail deciding which way to go. probably wouldn't have made 5 seconds of difference.
9. Took a chance
Underrated difficulty
Could not relocate
Not thinking clearly

disaster. missed the control, missed it again, and again and again. hit #1 after missing it the first time, and was sure I knew where I was and attacked carefully, but that was only the beginning of mis-reading the map and wandering aimlessly in thick green junk. I haven't blown a control this badly in years.
10. straight and fast.
11. NW on main trail, W on indistinct trails. pretty fast leg.
12. used the road.
13. directly east to road.
F. sprint!
