Race Evaluation

US Champs: Day 2 Green Y

Charlie

1. Road until the bend to the NE, then on compass across the ridge, through the reentrant and up the northern reentrant to the control
2. Across the stream and up up up the spur left of the stream flowing S. Checking off reentrants on the left and over the top, coming in a little low. Certainly a very shallow reentrant.
3. Pretty much straight, looking for the streambed flowing NE after the road and following it down, going up the spur S of control for a while before switching to right up the reentrant.
4. On pointy spur R of line, past rootstock in reentrant and straight in.
5. Tough time climbing the hill. Saw Mary Jones walking a bit to my left and had a very hard time keeping pace running. Anyway, straight on the line to top of reentrant past road, then failed to execute my plan. Darn! I had intended to follow the streambed and then up the spur to the control, but instead (ok, I was tired) went straight, bouncing up and down over spurs and through green, hitting the right spur just right of the knoll right of control. No problem getting there, just a bit slow.
6. +00:30Just right of line to stay on high ground, and to check off rootstocks for final attack. Stopped short at a ditch (maybe the mapped one W of control, but seemed different), then pressed on and left and in.
7. Pretty straight going up and over the large spur and past the ditch NNW of the control and straight in.
8. Straight again. The reentrant on the line 100 m before the control was pretty big.
9. Reasonably straight. Some others on this leg, including Mal Harding.
10. Fairly straight.
11. +00:45Didn't see the "mandatory" crossing, and headed down the trail NE. Then remembered there was supposed to be one and started looking for it, so back to the crossing, then in a pack along the trail through the thick green.
12. A little slow going up the hill. Behind Mal, who was going to a different control, but aiming for the NE building in the little group near the control and hitting it right on. Control was further down the ditch than I expected, which was a little unsettling but otherwise fine.
13. Moving a little faster, but hit the reentrant a bit low and had to climb over the log.
