Race Evaluation

NEOC: Gay City: Red

1.
2. +03:00Drifted way far right and hit the trail. Now that was a surprise, so in from the bridge, and easy enough, but a lot of extra distance
3. +04:00I really knew better than to try the very unsafe route between the marshes. It turned out to be awful and I was stuck for a few minutes trying to pry smilax stickers out of my flesh. I know much better than to just try to push through them. Then compounded by being on a lower level to the left and looking around, before climbing up to the control. As it turns out, either left around the marshes, or right on trails around would have been a better way to go. The straight line approach was just doomed.
4. OK, if a bit of slow going
5. Came upon a family, with a young boy running off the front and announcing this control, which was, after all, right along the trail.
6. OK
7. OK
8. +03:00Across by stream via the trail and the hoppable rocks, then to the bend and in, crossing the stone wall in just the right place, and thinking I would bang right into it, but somehow I went by. It was a fair amount lower on the hillside than I had imagined from the map.
9. OK
10. OK
11. +04:00Hit the trail with only a vague sense of how far along I was, and tried to gauge where to turn in from the knolls along the trail. Turned in a bit early, and there were a few extra marshy looking places. Then I was struggling a bit with getting the right compass direction - oh, there it is.
12. Slow, through the marshy woods where the trail isn't, along the walls.
13. Stayed left to avoid the stuff I went through on the way in, but tired and slow.
14. Too much water to go straight here. Took a while.
