Race Evaluation

Wolf's Den NEOC meet: Red

PBricker's comments - by leg

1. Copy time 3:06. Attacked from beginning of stone wall.
2. Straight.
3. Came down spur from trail-road intersection.
4. Time Lost: 02:00Like others I circled the wrong cliff and didn't read the clues. Unlike others, it took me 2:00 to figure it out.
5. Caught in too much green going by the big marsh. Followed stream from trail and up around the green.
6. Time Lost: 14:00Drifted a bit right, and must have gone right past the narrow marsh (catching feature?). Ended up at the stream 150m beyond and went up and down it looking for the reentrant. Took a header down a rocky slope and based my knee. Walked it off for next five minutes until I finally realized mistake and relocated at the trail.
7. Knee recovered, I figured I'd give it another go. Stayed low between the two cliffs, then up. Good, clean leg.
8. Straight.
9. Time Lost: 12:00Headed for number 12 (don't ask why), and didn't realize it until I read the control number. Felt demoralized. Headed back to 9, moving slowly and navigating carelessly. Saw Gail heading to the control, but I went the other way to stream to make sure I knew where I was, then retraced.
10. Time Lost: 00:30Drifted right. Bad compass work.
11. Easy. Saw Gail a bit right of boulder, and beat her to the control.
12. Made myself go to the control, even though I had already punched. (Tempted to take road to 13, but that would be cheating - and maybe Gail was looking).
13. Basically straight, but avoding the green. A good leg - too bad I didn't get a split.
14. Straight.
15. Tripped right at the start triangle and went sprawling. Jim says he named the root after me.
16. Trail. The downhill was hurting my knee, so I took it slow.

Total Time Lost - 00:28:30
