Race Evaluation

QOC Wheaton: Orange

sevin

1. P D R 2 Pretty easy on to 1.
2. P D P R 3 I have no idea what the little circle things are that are mapped, so I ignored them and just used compass and pace-counting to find the control. Still taking it a little slow. 3 months between events is 3 too many!
3. P D P R 4 Decided it would be easier to go straight there instead of hitting the trails.
4. P D P R 2 Worst leg. Ugh. snow made things tricky. Found every rootstock except the control I think. c'est la vie!
5. P D P R 3 Annoyed by 4 but 5 was pretty good.
6. P D P R 3 Straight onto 6. Again, quicker than the trails which were options and treated as catching features.
7. P D P R 4 Perhaps easier to go with the trails and try to fine nav into the point...which is what I did, but the gullies and dry beds were easier to see since this side of the park had received more sun and thus had less snow.
8. P D P R 4 Followed the contours around, keeping the peak to my right and hit 8 spot on. Calf was pretty much done at this point.
9. P D P R 1 Easy leg; however, totally missed running right to the control because I got to where it was marked on the map and my sunglasses were fogged and the control was just a bit to the west....finally saw it once I removed the sunnies.
10. P D P R 1 Another easy leg
11. P D P R 1 Was not looking forward to this one---I still don't know how this was a rock feature. I had set out from 3-4 to use #11 to help me find #4. Ergo, I took a very conservative route and used the trails and dog park as hand rails and found it easily enough.
12. P D P R 3 More difficult due to the terrain and things to cross. Missed running right onto it by say, 10 feet.
13. P D P R 1 Used the trails to get there a bit quicker, found the creek and hopped down there. Up until this point I was relatively dry and as clean as one can be. Now I was just dry.
14. P D P R 1 SERIOUSLY. The little sign, I didn't recognize it. Didn't really know what feature to look for. Great plan up until getting to the vegetation boundaries. Finally found it.
F. P D P R 1 Spent, glad to be done. Good course!
