Race Evaluation

QOC Turkey Run Ridge: Red

richf

1. opt to run through the woods vs trail. on balance for me maybe not a good choice as it took a while to establish where I hit the road. then I overran the control and it took a while to recover
2. typical bad trade of too much speed too little map followed by overshoot and recovery
3. an epic fail - if this leg were a paper bag I wouldn't have found my way out. trying to learn from the mistake I head back to 2 and try again this time far enough north to have a feel for separation from the main stream. along the way I intentionally run by 5 and unintentionally by 4. better plan but 2 miles of running and a fair amount of wandering on this leg does not help my finish time
4. so apparently I'm fast enough when running to a control I've just been by
5. see 4
6. slowing along the way to see if the mystery of 3 can be solved. no luck
7. stop to show a couple with the dog where they are on the map they are looking for 2 and at least 500m off course. too thick to make any time anyway
8. South to road then decide that since I'm not not enjoying the vegetation induced pace, that I need closer attack points here, and that I'm looking to ramp mileage I'll trail around. Way west to the junction trail south to the creek crossing then come in NE without too much problem. Another 2 mile leg.
9. way overshoot so go all the way back to the stream trail juncture and look more closely at the map. better second time.
10. not clean at all. slowed by the vegetation and struggling to hold any lines (not sure why this didn't log manually corrected)
11. j
12. drift too far west go long and have to double back
