Race Evaluation

Moscow Meridian 14: 1

Tundra/Desert

1. The route should be here soon.
2. I went around the hillside that was directly S of ControlĀ 14 and the whole hillside was a muddy swamp. It was slow. There was an unmapped cave on the narrow spur. It looked like there could be cool things inside.

6. Some kid, apparently on CourseĀ 2, was ahead of me to ControlĀ 3 and followed on 3–4–5–6.

8. Lacked confidence
+00:35
The control was behind a tree directly from the obvious approach direction. I couldn't see it and walked around the spur for a bit.

12. Bad route choice
+01:10
I went straight (having missed Sunday's exercise at Quicksilver and regretting it badly) and the climb was slow. I timed the climb itself and it was about 1:10. It saved a bit of the distance, maybe 30–35 seconds' worth, but I was not particularly confident after having climbed and this accounts for the other 35 or so seconds of the loss.
13. Knowing what I had learned on the 1–2 leg, I went around all the way on major trails.
14. Straight.
