Race Evaluation

MNOC Chester Woods County Park: Red

P.Stromme

1. P D P R 3 Took the road around
2. P D P R 3 Straight shot
3. P D P R 3 There was a mown trail through the prairie, mapped as a ride (narrow yellow line in the middle of tan). I didn't see it on the map, and thought I had reached a trail that I was looking for. Not much lost, though.
4. P D P R 3 Hit the trail, and then follow the shallow reentrant to the control.
5. P D P R 3 Trail across the prairie, then to the end of a clearing and into the control.
6. P D P R 3 More or less straight shot over the spur an into the next reentrant.
7. P D P R 3 Trail skirting the edge of the prairie, then followed a narrow ride through dark green to the control.
8. P D P R 3 Crossed the stream at #7, then up the other side to #8.
9. P D P R 3 Trail through dark green, then across the prairie.
10. P D P R 3 I avoided getting my feet wet by crossing a log across the stream. Apparently it slowed me down, because AP has me losing 0:41.
11. P D P R 3 Hit the trail, and then followed the dry creek bed to the control.
12. P D P 3 My route was OK, but a straight shot MIGHT have been better
13. P D P R 3 I hit the trail and took the long way. It definitely would have been faster to cut across--shorter distance, and less than half the climb.
14. P D P R 3 My planned route was OK, but I probably would have done better to avoid as much climb initially. Should have hit the first trail, then contoured around, instead of climbing to the 2nd trail and contouring.
15. P D 3 I'm not so sure about the location of this control. I think it was closer to the water than mapped.
16. P D P R 3 Big screw up here. Ended up about 200m east of where I wanted to be. Fortunately, I realized it before I went any further. A compass might have helped prevent the mistake here. After the mistake, I chose to take a trail instead of cutting through open forest. It was slower, but it helped me regroup.
17. P D P R 3 I probably should have cut across the 2 reentrants, instead of going around on the trail. Considered punching 214 (i.e., the malfunctioning control) as I passed, just to see what would happen. But I didn't.
18. P D P R 3 This is when I noticed the ride that I had missed on my way to #3. My route was good, but I spaced out and ran right past the control. Had to back track 15-20m.
F. P D P R 3 Got stuck behind a wedding party that was taking pictures on the bridge.
