Did not like map Time Lost: 01:50 | Re-ran this leg on Green. |

Bad route choice Bad map reading Time Lost: 02:40 | Frustrated, chose a long around-on-trail route. It was not bad (maybe a minute slower than straight); I had plenty of opportunities to notice how badly mapped the trails were. I botched the approach, passing within 10 m of the bag but not knowing it. |

Underrated difficulty Read map too late Time Lost: 00:40 | Not enough fine-O in the circle. |

Bad distance judgement Did not read control description Time Lost: 02:00 | Misread the trail!! This rarely happens, but I guess I was way too suspicious after reading the trails on #1–#2 to believe that the trail bends were mapped correctly. Left the trail too early and was immediately lost in the boulder wonderland. Then, did not read the control description; I would have moved through the wonderland much faster, even without any understanding, if I had realized that I was looking for a 8-m high boulder. Had to stop at one point and locate by looking at features a km away, on the other side of the valley. |

| 8. | Andy was much faster on #8–#10 but I was a bit tired from my 2× courses run; Andy does tend to speed up at the end of the second day, and I tend to expire. | |
