Race Evaluation

WCOC Paugussett: Red course

Charlie

1. lower trail then up the stone wall
2. +04:00missed the trail and drifted right into the crappy green, finally hitting the curved stonewall and left to the jct with the NS wall, but there was another NS wall and I was too high.
3. fairly straight, checking off the stone walls to my right
4. A little left of line, hitting the stream near the wall and just above the large boulders. Followed Rick D up the stream and could see the bag from a distance.
5. Tried to go straight, but drifted a bit left and hit long cliff at its northern end, followed along the top more or less near Siobhan and Craig Weber
6. tried to find trail along line but couldn't. Drifted left and around to go down big cliffs, then up and over and down more cliffs. Saw PG passing here
7. PG disappearing, I passed Craig on this leg, reading the ponds and right in.
8. A little south getting out, then stayed right of line until the northern E-W wall. Saw PG off to my right, runnign a straighter route. Along wall to flag.
9. Trail.
10. Really tired by now. Got caught in some raspberries. Just slow.
11. Just left of line. No problem. Saw Nysse at control and Gail just after.
12. Straight. No problem
13. +02:00Straight to top of big reentrant but stopped to look around because I couldn't see the flag. Eventually decided it must be tucked in down there and of course it was.
14. Easy
15. +03:30Went too far up reentrant, which should have been obvious because I glanced over at 13/16 on the way.
16. Easy
17. Straight.
18. Along right side of pond and in. Saw Lou Pataki at control
19. +02:00Around N side of pond and down the knoll. Flag was not on cliff in center of circle and lost time looking for it. It was on the western cliff instead of the south facing one.
20. Getting the hang of this one by now
21. N past 19 and picked up the trail N. Just didn't want to do anything that needed thought. Although following the stream would have been a reasonable thing to do.
22. Trail.
