CSU Franklin Park Park-O: Franklin Park - Advanced Course

bshields

1. +00:10Didn't bring my compass with me, so when I got to the trail junction instead of reading the map I charged off in a semi-random direction, which turned out to be on the wrong side of the hilltop.
2. +00:03A bit of hesitation/not reading trails correctly. Read everything going into the control right, though, which was quite surprising given how many times I've been completely confused by that part of the map.
3. +00:20Missed the fact that I could have gone through the tunnel.
4. Went out to the road.
5. +00:02More or less straight. Was expecting to hit that big path more quickly, but it turns out I read the map wrong, so I was collected by the junction. Control was visible from the path.
6. Saw Vakhutinsky, maybe?
7. +00:15Busted down the hill, actually noticing the small trail and getting on it. Went right around the track, misread the stone wall, and was expecting "inside corner of wall" to mean at the bottom of the wall, not the top. Ended up running through the tunnel then climbing the wall.
8. +00:15Went more or less straight, but really confused about direction (again, compass). and ended up cutting through some nasty green stuff to get to the trail I was planning to be on. Ended up in the right place though, which was apparently much harder than it seemed (as most everyone else seems to have been unable to locate the small trail into the bare rock), then very confused by the control location, but it had the right code, so ok. Time lost is mostly from the bushwhacking to get to the right trail.
9. +01:00Was planning to take that small trail past the cliffs, as Ross apparently did, but went to the wrong cliffs, then found a different trail. Apparently this cost me dearly.
10. +00:05Went left around the hill. Turns out I could have gone more straight and over, but wasn't sure from the control description how high up the hill it would be.
11. Busted it out to the road. Ross was faster, but I'm not convinced that had to do with the route.
F. Busted it back to the finish. Again, Ross faster, but c'est la vie.
