Race Evaluation

"O" in the Pines A meet: Sunday - Long Red

cmpbllv

1. P D P R 2 +01:00Just couldn't bring myself to exit the trails. It was so nice to be able to read them for a change. So not the most direct route, but knew where I was.
2. P D P R 4 +02:12Hesitant, hard to push myself to keep moving with so little feedback about exactly where I am. Would have been more certain had I stayed on the ride. Saw the likely faster (for me) route out and around after I had already committed. Interested to see the RG.
3. P D P R 5 +02:44Good plan, but hard to follow the swamps. might have been better to swing left and stay close to the line, instead. But at least I didn't totally blow it, either. Caught myself swinging too far out and read the features carefully on the way in.
4. P D P R 3 Read the terrain here effectively, pretty good split.
5. P D P R 4 Direct route, reading features. A bit thicker in the circle than expected, but very in touch.
6. P D P R 4 +03:00I wanted to go left of the swamp where I knew there was some easy running. Ended up getting pushed away from the swamp and towards the edge of the map. Lost touch, knew I needed to come back in and managed to relocate off the ride in the clearing (the first one I stopped in was not mapped or under the control descriptions). In retrospect, straight was probably a better call here.
7. P D P R 3 Straight at it, reading terrain and features. A bit left.
8. P D P R 3 +01:00Worked my way in fits and starts along the line, and then was just so tired of it all I bombed around on the trail instead of cutting. probably gave up some time here, but it felt good to run easy for a change.
9. P D P R 3 +02:00Misread the first hill as the second hill and stopped too soon. Hannah caught me on this one.
10. P D P R 3 With Hannah punching right behind me, took off in an attempt to stay out front for a bit. You can see the difference as my splits picked up for the next 5 controls.
11. P D P R 3 +01:00Froze at first trying to understand the map exchange. Then got too far left and on the wrong side of the fence, but had pace and corrected, bringing the group with me.
12. P D P R 3 Raced Hannah on this one, with minor variations in route. She got to the control first this time. But I had a great picture and was fast - one of my fastest relative splits yet, exciting!
13. P D P R 1
14. P D P R 1
15. P D P R 1
16. P D P R 5 +03:00Mapping didn't make sense here, pace would have helped as I turned back to that silly cliff to relocate once again on this hillside. wasn't sure if I was high enough, or too high, and wasn't sure which grouping of boulders. Felt a bit too green to be the right set.
17. P D P R 4 Pretty excited my route choice paid off here. Up the reentrant, around on the trail, and down the rides into the control.
18. P D P R 3 Good visualization and picked up another runner, so picked up my pace again.
19. P D P R 2 Really easy big picture, just tough to get up the hill. Endurance paying off here.
20. P D P R A bit weak on the picture at the end, but knew the big idea well enough that I made the right decision without having to think too hard.
F. P D P R A bit more kick this time than last time!
