Race Evaluation

Hong Kong Orienteering Ranking League 2015 (Sprint #5): ME/WE

1. R Stayed on the paved path. Could've maybe save a little bit of distance by going straight on the grass.
2.

4.
5. P First route-choice leg. Picked the right hand route which apparently was slightly longer. No hesitation though, which was good.
6. P Missed the more direct route hugging along the stone wall, but I executed my planned route just fine.
7. D R Did a good job reading the map and navigating through the out-of-bound hedges
8.
9. P D +00:05Did not have a plan ready when I punched #8, which led to exiting in the wrong direction and losing a few seconds.
10. P +00:05Again hesitant deciding on the route choice. Stopped for a few seconds out of #9. Was considering the shorter but uphill option but just couldn't see a clear enough route, so ultimately decided to go south around the swimming pool.

13. P +00:10A bit of hesitation midway as I tried to make sense of the map/terrain.
14.
15. D Good compass and map reading here. Did not get tricked by the other control nearby.
16. D Ran with confidence on this easy leg.
17.
18. Thinking there may be a hidden route choice of getting to #18, but there really is just one way out of the fenced in lawn above the water storage tank.
19. P +00:35Cannot make sense of the crossing section through forbidden area (olive green), and didn't see the middle option, so took the road south through crossing point. Except that there was no tape at the crossing point, causing me to overrun. Realized my mistake when I got to the next road bend. Still another mistake after finding the trail, when I followed an unmapped path instead of turning uphill to the control.
