Race Evaluation

US Champs Day 2: Red Y

JimBaker's comments - by leg

1. Liked the map and course today much better...course setting was matched to the accuracy of the map.
2.

4.
5. Bad map reading
Time Lost: 01:00
From attackpoint where ridge turned and got steeper, contoured instead of going up one contour. (Read map too sloppily.)
6.
7.
8. Bad map reading
Confused parallel features
Not thinking clearly
Time Lost: 01:00
Executed plan well until dropped out of major reentrant into wider bit of white. Was too far left on next ridge/reentrant, and hit powerline. Relocated quickly (though should have stopped when I first saw powerline).
9. Time Lost: 01:00Went to 0.6m boulder at center of circle. Checked map, and relative to stream junction I appeared to be at correct spot. Spent too much time reading map. When I decided just to run on I came to 0.3m boulder 25m further behind some bushes.
10.
11. Bad route choice
Time Lost: 00:45
From Spike's splits, looks like road was 45s faster.
12.
13.
14.
15. Did not plan ahead
Time Lost: 00:10
A bit far left, probably because I was trying to get out of 14 quickly ahead of Spike.

Total Time Lost - 00:03:55
