US Champs Day 2: Red Y

tdgood

1. Went slow to the first control after difficulty from day before.

5. +00:30along edge of hill. Got to far right and overshot a little bit
6. +15:00Decided safe route was to go to the road and take the trail. The brush was really bad and tough to get through. Made it to the top of right ridge and decided to contour to the control instead of losing climb to go to the trail. Went to what I thought was the correct distance. Green was really crappy all along the way. Finally decided to bail out to the trail. This hill side isn't mapped. I discovered all kinds of stuff that I wasn't mapped that would have been nice to relocate off of. Finally got to trail but where I hit the trail there was down trees and it was hard to tell if this was the trail or not. Finally relocated on trail way short of control by little jogs. Up trail to control.

8. +03:00Down hill to boulder field/stoney ground. Bad drafting, since the north south line hid the rocks. Up hill to the trail. Unfortunately, it was a trail that wasn't on the map. I ran down the trail and was really surpised when it ended. Figuring it just faded out for a bit I searched around for where it continued. More time lost. Decided to cut over to other trail by road and hit the mapped trail. Damn map. Trail to road to control.Shot in from road bend and still was to right of control.
9. straight
10. +00:15straight. Saw control on lone tree outside circle and ran to it first.
11. +00:30Blue runners blow by me. Trail around reentrant to campground road. Hesitated short of control.

14. +00:10Mapper need to learn to map. Course setter hangs control on pit that you can't see until you are in it. There is a boulder there that is mapped as "one stoney ground" and can't be seen on the map without a magnifying glass.
