Race Evaluation

Event in Kent (Day 2): Red

Nadim's comments - by leg

1. Slow and tired--I walked some but spiked it.
2. Around to the left, I spiked it but it was dumb luck.
3. Time Lost: 02:00Contoured around and missed too high. I was on coming back.
4. Hesitant.
5. Time Lost: 00:45I never saw Ted leaving #4 but he saw me. Down to the trail, I didn't realize there were actually two until crossing the creek and climbing a bit. I recovered quick, getting to the second trail and attacking from the rock wall. Ted got there coming more directly and was just in front of me.
6. Chasing Ted up to the trail, I passed him as he paused to read. I attacked from a rock just past the stream crossing. Ted converged after going to another rock first.
7. I rough compassed and used a deer trail through the ankle grabbing stuff. Ted started to go much more left but fell in behind. As I got close, I paused and he passed me. Time included drinking since I had to wait for Ted to punch first.
8. Across the road, Ted lead chasing another guy. He started to go right at the stream, where others were going. I saw the knoll to my left a little and did a double-take to make sure it was right. I moved toward it as Ted realized ahead of me at a second later, so he got there first.
9. No attack point
Bad route choice
Did not plan ahead
Read map too late
Time Lost: 04:00
I went around to the left, leap-frogging with Ted as we both paused to read. Another guy who went high for the trail, came out at the same time a the stone wall. After the stone wall, I lead up to the marshy saddle. I cut left thinking it was better running up high than on the hillside but it was harder to read where I was then. Unsure and faced with multiple reentrants ahead, I went in, despite seeing Ted and the other guy go in much more right. I missed by only a little but turned left into the big reentrant. I turned around after passing the last cliff and when seeing a stone wall. Coming back I went right to it and saw Pavlina B. get there just ahead, from the opposite direction.
10. Time Lost: 00:30I went around the cliffs left despite seeing Pavlina go right. I corrected but she was long gone when I got there.
11. Used the stone wall to key-in after the stream.
12. Time Lost: 00:45Caught sight of Pavlina and closed-in by staying higher. As she cut left to contour somewhat around the big reentrant before the control, I went straight across and passed her. I saw a trail blaze and thought I was on target but I looked left an high, saw a control, doubted myself and went to check. Pavlina passed under an lower beating me there.
13. Another woman was near Pavalina. I chased down after both, getting there just after they did.
14. Passing both woman by the time I hit the trail, I sprinted ahead. However, like yesterday I wasn't able to read carefully enough. My map was printed offset a bit so it looked like the circle was centered left of the trail. I slowed to watch left as I ran. Finally there I punched only a little ahead of Pavalina.
15. I thought I ran hard on the run-in but looking a the times, I guess I was just slower.
