1. Did not follow plan
Bad map reading

Came off of N side of hill looking for spur jutting out from NE corner. Slightly low in the circle
2. HAD TO WALK DUE TO SHIN SPLINTS. Headed SSE to just before steep part of stream up over two ridges to control.
3. HAD TO WALK DUE TO SHIN SPLINTS. Came off the pond, up and over the two hills and down the reentrant with the lake and row of cliffs. After the cliffs headed up the S side slightly looking for the smaller reentrant which my control was just above.

Headed SSW to get around the climb somewhat, counted reentrants , hit ridge with #4 just slightly to the E.
5. Up reentrant heading E to top of hill.

Headed NE down reentrant staying above cliffs. Hit stream just below smaller marsh where I turned N. Head up and over big hill and then smaller spur. Overshot and hit reentrant with stream just to the W. Relocated and came right into it.

Where do I begin? One of the worst legs I have ever run. Contoured around hill down to stream with open fields, crossed stream heading NW looking for marsh. I must have been heading more W than NW because I hit the crossable marsh further to the west instead of the incrossable one which is where I thought I was at. I spent the next 30 minutes circling around the area to the W of the control unable to relocate or even bail out to the trail to the north (I couldn't find it). Finally I relocated on the trail heading S to the W on the large crossable marsh with a boulder at its northern tip. I went to the boulder, crossed the stream, followed up the shallow reentrant and passed inbetween the crossable marsh and uncrossable just to the S and climbed over the ridge to the E to finally find my control.
8. Already was there on way to 7 (I just hadn't checked the code) so I was able to run full speed to it. Went around marsh to the S. Shin felt better after walking so much to 7 so I was able to run full speed for the rest of this race for the first time this season!
9. Climbed major hill to the S looking for trail and then for small uncrossable marsh whose reentrant I followed over the broad saddle and into my reentrant on the other side.
10. Bad route choice
+00:15
Headed NW around hill to 2nd trail next to marsh. Headed WSW to #10. Should have headed immediately W to trail on other side of stream and N to control, route choice error.
11. Followed trails to the W of straight line. Came off small trail to the E of crossable marsh just to the N of #11. Followed S up the reentrant to the SE of the marsh right into my control.

Headed WNW to trail. Headed N on trail to junction where I followed trail heading W to road. Followed road heading NW looking for linear stony ground which I never saw. Saw open area infront of me and cut in then. Ended up going to the N of uncrossable marsh when I wanted to be to the S, but no big deal. Overcompensated coming into the control and ended up to the S of the control in the open area on the hill. Relocated and headed into the control.
13. Headed S tothe E of smaller pond across marsh. Contoured up and to the SSW to my control. Brian May and I left #12 together. He went the other way around the small pond. We hit #13 together.

SE to road. Cut into NE tip of Pickerel Pond. Followed trail to the SE from there. Took first right on trail heading SW and then second left on trail heading SE. Cut corner near the end of this trail and cut in just before the little hill with the cliff on it. Heading SE crossed broad reentrant and then two small but prominant spurs. Lost contact going into the control and thought I was to the NE of the control instead of heading right into it. As a result I lost time heading to the SW along the cliffs until I approached the trail where I turned around and found the control.
15. Bad distance judgement
Lacked concentration

Returned to spur heading W and crossed trail Headed along the S side of the hill with cliffs on it from the trail and crossed over into the reentrant with #15. Somehow missed it running down the reentrant and had to retrace my steps.
16. Lacked confidence
+00:10
Heading NNW across trail and up hillside looking for single cliff on my left and into the reentrant where I turned to the NE up the reentrant to my control. Stopped short when I hit the reentrant because it was shallower than I expected.
17. No attack point
Bad map reading
Confused parallel features

Ran along the south face of the hill heading NE followed the white strip through the green and then contoured along the hill after crossing the trail. When I hit the area near #17 the fold I was above looked too steep to be anywhere but the one directly to the N of #17 so I went down and was too low.
18. E to road and then E from road where the large clearing is. Noted the stone wall and then the cliffs on the ridgeline as I approached my control. Hit it dead on.
19. Headed NNE out of control to get around green but stayed high. Crossed the trail near the top of the hill with the small clearing and came down its N spur into the GO control.
F. RAN LIKE HELL and remembered to punch in at the finish this time!!!
