1. | +03:00 | Ka-Boom! Damn, Eric, get your head in the game.
2. | Ran conservatively until I was sure I was on the right ditch. Didn't want 2 booms in a row.
3. | Used the boulder group N as an attackpoint.
4. | Wood much thicker than mapped. Easy nav leg, so I just picked the best line through the thick stuff I could find.
5. | Expected the horse trail on the ridge would be goop, so I stayed low and went over the saddle. Spotted the control from the top of the spur 150m N.
6. | Attack point = rock face WNW of control.
7. | +00:30 | The stoney ground S of the control had some pretty big rock, and it suckered me that way until I noticed the bag off to my left. Splits shows it wasn't that bad of a miss.
8. | Woods were open, so I contoured rather than taking the trial.
9. | Too far right leaving the control, but I don't think it mattered much.
10. | Slightly right to use the trail. Straight would have been just as fast.
11. | Best leg of the race. Blasted straight, but maintained map contact.
12. | Second best leg. Still very good contact. Legs starting to feel it.
13. | +00:30 | Not sure what happened here, aside from stating the obvious that I made a left turn for no apparent reason. Track shows a pretty bad miss left but, as with 7, the splits show the damage was minimal.
14. | Just right of the line to avoid the reentrants.
F. | Could feel the will to live leaving my body as I went up the ridge. Managed to convince myself that a strong run in might matter. I was right - David was only 3 seconds behind at the final control. |
