Race Evaluation

Sycamore Scramble: Red Y Middle

Nadim

1. Just a bit to the left. I saw the control but almost decided to go by it thinking it was for another course. My compass had a bubble and it was throwing me off.
2. +00:15After getting across the road, the bubble in my compass and the 3m contours were confusing me. I was low and didn't see the control just a little way up so I started to go past the correct reentrant. I stopped and took a good look at my compass and the angle of the reentrant before going up to the control.
3. I ran fairly straight but just a bit to the right. I came up the correct reentrant at the end.
4. Straight up the hill to the road and road intersection. I ran down the perpendicular road until I could be sure I was seeing the spur. I ran smoothly, taking my time so as to be sure to read well. I saw the reentrant on the spur but with others to my right and the 3m contour, I was less confident. When I was sure that there was no other reentrant on the spur, I cut left more to it. I passed Peggy around here.
5. Going down the reentrant, I passed Peggy. At the bottom, I crossed and angled up, hitting it just fine.
6. Down to cross the reentrant, I stayed a little to the left so as not to have to dip too much in the side reentrant half-way through the leg. At the end I was a bit to the right but knew to correct.
7. Straight through the green slash and across the road, staying low, rather than going a straighter line over. As I approached mostly contouring, others were coming up from my right. I seemed to beat out both, one of which was a Swede (Thomas Svobodny?) that I didn't know was on my course.
8. I ran fairly straight, crossing the side reentrant on the left, before cutting across the larger one and to the control. I opened-up some distance on the runners I'd seen at #7.
9. +01:00I looked at this leg when going to #8 but somehow when I left #8, I headed toward #10. Stopping when things weren't matching-up, I realized what had happened and fortunately found myself on what seemed to be an intermittant trail that pointed to #9. I took the trail and left at a bend. As I was getting to the control, the Swede I'd seen at #7 was leaving.
10. I climbed to the road, through the green at the end. The green was nothing to slow me down much. I ran to the intersection and turned down it. I could see that the Swede I'd seen earlier had overshot the road intersection and was at a clearing. He was coming back as I was headed down the road. I cut-in before the second bend, again finding the green nothing to be concerned with.
11. +00:40I moved down the hill well and popped out on the road at an S-bend that I had wanted to be at. Went I crossed, I could hear footsteps behind me--the Swede again. I picked-up the pace and then confused #11 with #1 on the map. I went perfectly right to #1 which was in a side reentrant. After getting there and checking the code, I realized what I'd done and ran down the reentrant to the field.
F. I was reluctant to run in hard and probably didn't have enough leg speed for it to make much of a difference anyway. My legs have been tight and slow lately.
