Race Evaluation

Return to the Water Gap Day 1: Blue

Tundra/Desert's comments - by leg

1. The pond was larger than mapped.
2. Caught up with Marek Filicko (+3 min or so).
3.
4. Did not read control description
Time Lost: 00:20
Was looking for the bag on top of the mini-ridge.
5. Even though I went wide right, I don't think this was much of a loss.
6. Bad map reading
Time Lost: 01:15
Wide left, after misreading the knolls that were branching left of the ridge.
7. Bad distance judgement
Time Lost: 00:45
Cut down to the escarpment one stream valley too early. Found a different bag in the deep stream valley.
8.
9. Bad map reading
Time Lost: 00:50
With Wyatt on my heels, I did not spend much time reading the map upon climbing the final ridge. And I paid for it: as I crossed the ridge, I saw cliffs to my left and checked them out as Wyatt went to the right location.
10. Bad map reading
Time Lost: 01:35
As the two of us charged ahead, we miscounted the spurs and stopped one rib too early. Wyatt was the one who figured this out.
11. Went left of the swamp (Wyatt went right), and was dead after the climbthe routes were probably equivalent so Wyatt was a bit ahead. I caught up at the control as he drank.
12. Passed Wyatt who was a bit unsure near the control, he was starting to look for it one ridge too early.
13.
14. Wyatt stayed left of the line, choosing gradual climb. Didn't see him again until the finish chute.
15.

17.
