1. | No warm-up. Up the road, through the thin green area and in.
2. | Contoured across and ended just a little high.
3. | Straight at it but slow. I paused to read while looking down into the valley and realized the control was behind the earthbank on the same side of the stream. I spiked it.
4. | I got a bit high and left of straight, even running on the trail a little way after the wide ride. I dropped right in after that.
5. | I climbed minimally to the road and crossed it dropping into the valley. Keeping the knoll on my left, I continued straight until the rib. I had to adjust by going up the rib a bit at the end.
6. | +02:30 | I contoured around and failed to drop down to the control. Hitting the right reentrant but unsure of it, I climbed to the top instead of dropping down.
7. | Angling down to the trail, I took it until it paralleled the rib. Crossing the rib, I angled up to the golf course, finding the unmarked trail along the way. I was a bit unsure of the reentrants almost going up too early but easily seeing that the reentrant wasn't long enough.
8. | A little to the left to avoid fallen trees, I went right in after rounding them.
9. | Angling a little left of straight then cutting more to the corner of the golf course, I dropped down into the next reentrant and ran around and up the valley to the control.
10. | +00:30 | I popped up and down but failed to set a good bearing and read the control description. I expected it to be on the very visible earthbank but only later read to see it was at the stream bend.
11. | Just up the trail and in.
12. | I drank and ate a Gu before going. I came at it high, running on the trail a little, then through the small field before dropping down.
13. | +00:20 | Once again, I didn't read the control description and paid a small penalty. I expected it to be in the reentrant and ran a little past it before hooking left to the man made object.
14. | +00:35 | I ran up the reentrant to the road, then along the road to a trail bend. Going on memory since I could read on the road, I didn't pause to set a bearing. As a result, I was a bit left. I almost passed it but another woman started asking me what control I was going to. When I looked over, I saw it on my right.
15. | I looked at the leg a little then ran. I crossed the stream before the big reentrant on the right mostly because I was thinking the control was nearere. In retrospect, I should have just used the trail or stayed on the left side until passing the big reentrant on the right.
16. | +00:20 | I went left, the up the next reentrant to the trail intersection. I cut right up the trail, then cut left when I thought I'd gone far enough. I really went too far and should have cut in early. I verified my location in the ride by seeing the trail crossing it. Dropping down, I was still unsure and started to cut right before realizing I was already where I should be. I corrected, went up the right reentrant and paused, being usure, just before the control was in sight.
17. | +01:00 | A woman was coming up behind me while punching at #16. I took off but had my map oriented 180 degrees off. After breaking through some green, I realized the error, corrected by running through the glass dumps, and down into the reentrant. The woman who was behind me had almost got there before me by walking most of the way.
18. | I drank before taking off. I didn't catch the woman from #16 & #17 until crossing the paved road. Attacking from NW of the control, I almost ran past it since the color was somewhat faded.
19. | I went around the hills by going through the field. The control was visible 100m off.
20. | +00:10 | Down into the reentrants, I crossed near the forked reentrant. I paused at the control from the red course on the shelf, knowing it wasn't mine but wondering if the control could have been placed incorrectly. In the end, I did not play it safe going down to check it out and instead went on right to the control, climbing at the end.
F. | Straight down to the stream, I crossed and climbed on the trail passing some folks. I felt bettter running on the trail but out of shape enough not to run hard into the finish. I also didn't want to chance hurting my achilles again. |
