West Point A Meet Day 2: Red Day 2

piutepro

1. +10:00My brain was not reset after yesterday's two runs. I avoid the green (maybe also the wet stuff), go up the southern trail. Bad decision. Cross to open yellow, drift, can't read the reentrants. Get to the hill behind the control, relocate thinking I am at the cliffs on the way to #2. Run down to white swamp. Finally figure it out and back to control.
2. Get out of the green jungle. Feel bad for bungled control. Run anyway. Never give up.
3. Push uphill, not much can go wrong on this. See Carl on top of hill somewhere. He started 8 minutes after me.
4. Carl disappears in clouds crossing the hill. I run down to the lake and catch him.
5. Stay high, get to the control easily.
6. +00:30I push a little bit. To my surprise Carl stays behind me. Lots of logs and trees. The trail below would have been faster.
7. Ahead of Carl. Controls seems to float somewhere. No boulder on map. See control from far. Easier than expected.
8. +00:30Go up to ridge. Since the control is (theoretically) in a pit, I approach it cautiously. A bunch of jugs give it away.
9. Contour to saddle and down to control. Carl in higher and behind me, has caught up when I was going for a safe approach to #8.
10. Straight downhill run. Debate if I should go to road, but I want to avoid the climb back-up. There is not much, but I can't see that with the wet glasses.
11. +00:30Again, can't see the detail, stop early, figure I am on the hill.
12. Run along trail, have lost Carl somewhere along the way.
F. This is my only course today. Seems kind of a short day of racing. And another wicked West Point A-meet is behind me.
