Race Evaluation

Blue Hills Traverse:

PG

1.
2.
3. +00:30Followed Alar to a nice big boulder (where the control should have been?)
4.
5.
6.
7. In a crowd until now, lots of people ahead. Took first trail left (most others were climbing to second), then left of fence and into control from NE. Tim Parson ahead by a couple of minutes (and out of sight). Think I was second.
8.
9. Passed by William Hawkins, who was moving a fair bit faster!
10. On my own from here until 18
11.
12.
13.
14. In the "spectator" loop, saw no one in front, a couple of people 2 to 3 minutes behind.
15.
16.
17.
18. +02:30Caught Tim who was having more trouble than me with 18, then we both missed it some more. Hit cliff under north part of circle, didn't see it on map. Thought control might be on next lower cliff. Went down, had to come back up and south.
19. Tim and I caught up by Dave Lamb, Misha, Alar, Clint, and Clint's running friend Thomas(?). Damn.
20. Down 9 lines, up 15. Clint and Thomas drop back.
21.
22.
23. The other four go left, I go right. Right is maybe 20 seconds faster. All still together
24.
25.
26.
27. Misha is looking stong, Alar is fading. Tim, Dave and I are just holding on.
28. Misha is first at the last control,...
F. But leaves in slightly the wrong direction. At the finish it's Tim, Dave, me, Misha, Alar. (William Hawkins, of course, has been in 12 minutes ahead of us!) PS. Are the Traverses getting harder? Or are the runners just getting older? This was 14.5 km, 600 meters climb. A fine course, nevertheless.
