Race Evaluation

DVOA: Harriman A Meet: Red

PBricker

1. Nice to start out with some easy short legs to build confidence.
2.
3. +00:20Missed a tad right.
4.
5.
6. Right side of marsh. Stayed below first two cliffs, then climbed up.
7.
8. Went up through the open area with deadfall due to fire, all slow walking. I remembered this area from the last Highlander, and correctly surmised it would not be as bad going up it was then going down (and cramping). Went right over the top and spiked it.
9. West to stream, then along the stream to the trail (slow, but alternatives didn't look better). Then main trail to bend in small trail. Approached along the top, above the cliffs.
10. +10:00Drifted way right and landed on a knoll 120 meters due west of control. Went within 30 meters of control, then turned around and went way off the other way to the marshes, then back to the knoll, then finally persevered to the east and found it. Two problems: rigid thinking - I just couldn't believe I could be that far off on such a short leg; and, for some reason, when I miss I only walk, never run, until I find it, as if I'd be less likely to see it if I were running - doubles the time lost.
11. Road to the trail. Tiring, but easy.
12. +08:00I'm too embarassed to try to explain how I messed up this easy control.
