Race Evaluation

Canadian Orienteering Championships: Middle M45-54

boyle

1. Despite following my intentions to walk the first leg, I still drifted right nearly 200m and was only stopped by a lake.
2. From the lake, it was a straight run through 1 to 2.
3. I messed up my first use of the complex trail system. I can't blame my vision or the map which was magnified to 1:7500.
4.
5.
6. I finally got my leg speed up but didn't know which trails I was crossing. Thankfully fence was my catching feature.
7. This leg was a total mess, changing directions 180° too many times. I was 100m short of target until finally pointed out by good samaratin.
8. I trail ran through the notswamp and turned back at control, saw the tape for the fence and for ages didn't believe the control was also there. D'oh!
9. I returned to the notswamp and then went straight run through woods
10.
11. NW on trail, ESE on yellow and then straight through forest where I met Richard.
12. Richard outwalked me to 12 as I hit yellow early.
13. I went straight through the tall grass.
F. Richard ran the GO leg at the same speed. Am I impressed or depressed?
