Race Evaluation

QOC: Broad Creek: Blue

TimGood's comments - by leg

1. Had some trouble finding the start triangle on the map but eventually did and took the woods to 2nd road crossing. Trails thru the clearings and the curved clearing to the trail and bridge across the stream. From the trail jct 500m on a bearing to the next trail and a bearing again from the trail bend. Used the spur to get to the right area and after some trouble in the edge of the green found some rocks which looked like a ruined stone wall. Followed them until I could see the bag. Already very tired.
2. Went straight along edge of green hoping to see #6 along the way. Did not see 6 but spiked 2.
3. Time Lost: 01:00Straight, crossing the stream at some rocks I could not find on the map. Planned to take the southern clearing thru the green but not sure which one I hit. Some of it was very open and some not nearly as nice. Think I was in the central clearing but could not match up with the map so went the most open route in the direction I wanted. Thought I had missed the trail on the W side but found a small one which must have been it. When the woods opened up , headed right in to the control. I see from Nadim's comments that there were some meet notes about the fields that I should have read. Wonder what else I msised.
4. Time Lost: 02:00Tried to skirt the green along the NW but did not seem as distinct as mapped. When I expected to find the control looked like I was to much NW toward the reentrant. Had to just go on until just before the trail and a small clearing. Did not look like the mapped one but assumed it was and that I was to far S. Managed to find it from there, but I did not like the map in this area.
5. Trails to just past the building then along the fence by the clearing. Passed Julie Klein on green here. Cut in at the nub of white woods into the light green
6. Straight out to #1, then along the green. Closer to green then on the route to 2 and hit 6 this time.
7. Time Lost: 01:00Down the reentrant. Got confused at the Whiteford Branch Outpost. There is so much writing on the map and the map details so small I had trouble reading it. Missed the trail and ended up much to low by some large cliffs. Took a long time to find them on edge of the map. From there just went up the reentrant.
8. Time Lost: 03:00NW to trail, then cut in to follow the edge of the green. Saw Marit coming out to the trail. Thought I should be able to see the ditch without entering the green but could not find anything. Spent a frustrating time searching the edge short of the control. Saw Ted leaving the area on the red course just before getting to the control. Again I did not like the mapping of the green in this area.
9. Another long leg and I am already beat. Went up to the trail and crossed on the same bridge I used to #1. Stayed on the trail due W to the road, field and swimming pool. S of the pool, then a combination of trails, and bearings to hit the clearing and the main tower of the High Couse. Followed the zip line trail then spaced and started SW towards 10 instead of W to 9. Realized my mistake after crossing the stream, then no problems. Hard to judge how much time was lost because I am moving so slow.
10. Up the hill and across the field.
11. Back thru field to the road.
12. Bearing back to #9, then the reverse of the route I should have taken to 9. Trail and then straight downhill from the jct.
13. Combo of trail and woods again to pass N of start. then onto the same trails used to go to 1. From the clearing with Dan Beard building I tried to take the 2nd trail SE but could not find the end. Went thru a bunch of very slow crappy stuff before hitting the trail into the control.
14. Contoured around but stayed to high. Could see the reentrant but not the control and ran past it. Could see clearing on far side before circling back and searching lower.
15. Straight to road at Frontier building. Up the closed trail and along the clearing.
16. Back up to clearing and in.

Total Time Lost - 00:07:00
