Race Evaluation

WCOC - Paugussett: Red

1. Time Lost: 03:00Congestion and coughing continues from a cold I had four weeks ago, so there were some points where I had to stop and just cough for a few minutes, which of course didn't help my time. Across the bridge, took small trail for a bit, then climbed hill to large trail. Feeling really down on energy, struggling to go uphill. Cut in from trail to go to the left of marsh, and proceeded to completely misread where I was and find a Green course control about 150 meters north of where I should have been. When the code didn't match, I figured out where I really was and went to the control with no further trouble.
2. Not paying attention, drawn left by contours, and went left around the SE lake.
3.
4.
5. Just right of line at base of rocky slope until I got pas the second marsh, then along the line, checking off walls and such, and read contours for the attack.
6. Time Lost: 04:30Doh! Left the control thinking "next one is on a wall". Took small trail, cut in at first wall, and then somehow got the idea that I was looking for the boulder, which didn't appear to be there. Ran up and down a few times, back out to trail, and finally swung east and came up under the cliffs, finding the second wall... and the control. Should haev paid attention to the control description! But I don't think that boulder is really there.
7. Just stayed low out of the rocks and read contours when I got to the large reentrant.
8. Just right of line, tried to stay in good running, stopped suddenly when I saw a big cliff on my left, and realized that I was in the right place.
9. Attacked from big reentrant right of the line, and the depression was easy to find.
10. Time Lost: 04:00S to pick up trail where it went up between cliffs, followed that around, left at the junction, and continued until it disappeared into recent logging work. Just winged it from there, but went too far right and had to swing back in order to get around the dense green lines. Up on the plateau I drifted left, but once I got into contour detail I was able to correct and read my way in without trouble. Again felt a lack of pep on the climbs, and had to cough a bunch.
11.
12. Straight the whole way.
13. Thanks for the map and courses, Gari! And for the eternal enthusiasm, too. Hope you've got a good map of the Elysian Fields in your hand now.
