Race Evaluation

Prince William: Blue

Nadim

1. +02:00I ran pretty wildly not using trails and ended-up a little too far left. I turned around just a little bit into the out-of-bounds area upon seeing the road.
2. Down the spur, with the grain of the reentrants on the other side of the stream, the adjust on compass from the top of the reentrants to the clearing.
3. W to the trail, R, then left from the reentrant down to the control.
4. I crossed the creek immediately then had to go up the hill on the trail before it went back down. I cut left toward the marsh, climbed the reentrant then turned left on Pyrite Mine Rd. I cut right to contour to the top of the reentrant and down. Heidi Onkst was coming up from below in the other direction. Her route might have been better.
5. I took a while deciding whether to go from above or below. Ultimately I went down and passed the pyrite mines. The new trail threw me but I kept running. I came up the reentrant.
6. +02:00I intended to hit the Pyrite Mine Rd. but after climbing to top of the reentrant I didn't cut left enough. I saw a line of blow down and reasoned that there it was new. The map seemed too lightly green. Going on the edge of the green, I finally cut left hard to suck it up through the green. By then I was at the farthest point from the trail and should have kept going straight. After hitting the Pyrite Mine Rd. and turning right, I turned right on the park loop road and followed it all the way to the bend due east of the control. I followed along a reentrant down to the stream and noted the saddle on my right. This didn't match-up with the map which showed the saddle being directly on my route to the control. I cut right a bit but seeing the reentrant complex on my left I cut back left and found the control in the middle one.
7. Down the ridge and along the stream to the control. I caught some younger ROTC's there and forgot to take a split after punching and drinking.
8. +00:30Down the stream then right on the road. I reasoned the road was fast climbing and that there might be too many logs to cross that would wear me down. I started feeling faster on the ridge trail. Nearing the bend and reentrant I slowed cut left then came back to the trail reasoning it was too soon. A few steps more and I saw Tim Gilbert coming out of a reentrant. Second guessing myself I cut hard left down to the reentrant and realized correctly I was one N of the control.
9. I left Tim G. and hit the ridge trail. I cut right just before the S. Fork Quantico Creek and figured running across the creek was faster but not significantly; I crossed on the road. Up the hill I cut right staying on the road nearly until the triangle. Originally I had planned to cut right then go to the next triangle intersection, cut left and over the ridge to the control. I skipped the last part to avoid the extra climb. Where I did cut in, it was only a few quick steps and I was through the green. I ran up the left side of the reentrant with the ridge on my right. I should have read the feature code on the way. I paused before climbing over the dirt bank to the dot knoll.
10. Over to the reentrant and down it on the right side, I cut right just before the confluence and climbed up at the saddle to the road. I cut left around the 1.5 contour knoll on the other side and felt awfully close to the cabin on my left. I ran down the reentrant from there and saw Victor leaving.
11. I reasoned that with two hills in the way, going around on the trail would be faster for me. Victor and a women's team went that way too. I caught them at the second bend and kept running into the woods staying in the white area. Victor pursued closely at first but cut more right when I cut left in an unmapped clear area. I hit the trail just below the trail intersection. From the intersection I cut up the woods and was able to run okay thinking Victor might be just behind--he wasn't. I hit the field at the corner and saw it from there.
F. I ran okay and felt yesterday in my hamstrings.
