Race Evaluation
Possum Trot VIII:
Charlie
| 1. | Big crowd, trying to hang on and not reading the map much. Peggy was in front of me, and Fritz in front of her. I was delighted to see the long thin clearing NW of control, then easy. | ||||||
| 2. | Drifted a little right behind Peggy and Fritz, but found it ok. | ||||||
| 3. | Straight, up and over. Didn't see Fritz, and got a bit clear of Peggy. | ||||||
| 4. | Straight. I could see Fritz's pink suit from time to time in the distance, and could see the flag from the stream. | ||||||
| 5. | Past the corner of the OB area. There was a lot more yellow on the ground than on the map. Got a little spooky waiting to find it, but it showed up eventually. | ||||||
| 6. | Left side of the reentrant by the big cliffs, up to the trail, through the yellow on diagonal, by the tower and right in. | ||||||
| 7. | Took a long time to get to the road for some reason, then ran too far up and saw the entrance to the camp. Got on the right spur Ok, though, and no trouble. | ||||||
| 8. | Pretty straight. Got down to the stream and saw Fritz studying the map, up the reentrant to the right and punched right behind him. | ||||||
| 9. | Started up to the right to pickup the road and trail, but got sucked left by Fritz. Just NW of the circle Fritz crashed and yelled. Ten seconds later I hit the fence and did a flip. He said "Didn't you hear me yell fence". Well, now that you mention it. Going right would have been easier, I think. | ||||||
| 10. | +04:00 | Lost sight of Fritz and fellow in green who was with us off and on. Heading down spur I think I'm either right on it, or one spur to the S. Fritz shows up from the right and says I pulled him off line, so we go right along the bottom of the spurs. What a dope! After a while we turn back and it was only a teeny bit left of where I had met Fritz again. | |||||

| 12. | Up hill, into the little white area and in on the trail. I see Fritz again at the control, and he stops for GU. | ||||||
| 13. | on trails around to the left, to the building in the white, and on compass from the trail bend. Get there with a fellow in orange. | ||||||
| 14. | +01:00 | For some reason the compass keeps seeming wrong, and it takes me a really long time to get out to the yellow clearing just left of the line. I see Fritz and the guy in green wandering and send them back for 13. Across on the trail. I see Nadim apparently headed for 16. Angle across the small trail and stop at the ditch, a line or two high, before I drop down. The guy in orange gets down to the right level and is in first. | |||||
| 15. | +00:30 | Pretty straight. I see a yellow area and run to it, but there's no control. I have to turn back and right 25 meters. No sign of the guy in orange. | |||||
| 16. | E to the yellow, then on trails to the junction, and follow trails to the ditch leading in from the W. pretty easy. | ||||||
| 17. | Skip. Bonehead move. I had planned to go to this one and skip 18-19, but 19 looked close and I just went to it without thinking. | ||||||

| 19. | Around on trail and road, past the aid station. I saw Fritz coming out. He had skipped 14 and 15 and got ahead of me. I figure he saved 3-4 minutes with his superior skip. | ||||||
| 20. | +01:00 | On the road NW to the small trail behind the buildings to the yellow area, then drifted back to the line. climbed up the reentrant on the final hill, but got a little right and had to come around beneath the knolls or cliffs or whatever they were. | |||||
| 21. | On trail and out to the road. Cut in through the area mapped rough open, which was actually quite open. Easy. | ||||||
| 22. | Wish I had skipped this one. I thought it was kind of hard to find, and the whole area was quite green. Got lucky and saw some folks leaving it. | ||||||
| 23. | Just right of the cliff (which was right at stream level, explaining why I didn't see it on my way to 22). Past the clearings, easy attack. | ||||||
| 24. | Around on trail to the right, through the parking lot. | ||||||
