Race Evaluation

NEOC: Earl's Trails: Red

cmorse

1. P D From fence corner - straight and conservative (slow)
2. P D R S to trail, trails all the way, easy run
3. P D R Trails all the way coming in from N.
4. P D R Straight on line to trail, up onto ridge and along top
5. P D R +00:10Straight, off slightly to R at the circle.
6. P D +01:40Trails around, attacked from junction to west. Must have been slightly N, confirmed cliffs, relocated promptly to trail junction north (likely passing near flag enroute). Back in fine..
7. P D R Out to trail, up reentrant
8. P D R +00:10SW to trail, trails to junction, in on bearing, initially a little low on slope corrected before approaching control
9. P D R Slow and straight on compass mostly
10. P D R +00:30Trail to bend, then on compass. Dropped my SI stick somewhere in here. Hit the cliff south of circle first, then corrected.
11. P D R Straight on compass, being careful going up the hillside to stay on the line
12. P D R +00:35Must have drifted more S than planned leaving control picking up wrong trail, when trail turned pushed through to major trail and pretty trivial coming in from distinct trail bend just S of circle
13. P D R Identified this as a likely 'bag in the woods' control, so used trails on first part then a slow, deliberate sidehill from the trail junction. Hit it solidly, but slow going due to side hill and focus on the line.
14. P D P R More or less on the line, counting off trails crossed (following a few for a short bit), then along trail to saddle and over
15. P D R Straightish to second trail, then trails around to major trail junction, straight in from there.
16. P D R Mostly trails then a straight bearing
17. P D R Straight, a bit thickish in here limiting visibility
18. P D R +00:45To trickle junction, then up reentrant wandered uphill too early winding up on hill SE of control before correcting
F. P D R SW to trail and in..
