Race Evaluation

Houghton's Pond : Green

tonyf

1. +01:00Diagonaled across the parking lot because trail is more fun than road, but only read one contour plus form line, so panted my way slowly up the steep hill. No trail east at top of cliff so beat my way through to the wall corner at the road then past stony ground and cliff to control. Road was certainly faster.
2. Trail to beyond the dark green. Tricky little hole in young pines!
3. +00:30Right of line to south of the 5-way junction, then ran the long way around the trail triangle. Should have gone higher.
4. Over the little spur just east of marsh.
5. +00:30Stiff climb up to the saddle/trail. Then straight and punched the control - woops - wrong code . How can that be; it's the right place - well almost. Quickly over the little spur to MY boulders as Ross came in to punch the Traverse boulders. Probably would have thrown courses out a an A meet.
6. Via trail at head of re-entrant. (Why do I have to hyphenate reentrant to get the red underline to go away?)
7. Northern trail, then over the knoll just past the marshes and down the stream. NONE of those big boulders are on the original b/w map.
8. +00:10From the form line knoll. A bit high and right.
9. Straight. Fortunately only one, easily visible, boulder in the area.
10. No need to read detail with the wall and contours for catching features.
11. +00:30Poor visibility in the young pines and got sucked down to the boulder in the reentrant - no control. Quick recovery.
12. Run.
F. Run.
